"Those Kinds of Kids": LGBTQ Youth of Color in the Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Systems

This workshop debunks myths around LGBTQ youth involved in juvenile justice (JJS) and/or child welfare systems (CWS) and will include the following: an overview of research, a dialogue on the intersections of identities, and the belief that communities of color are more homophobic than white communities. Using stories collected from LGBTQ youth across the country, participants will discuss how to overcome the barriers that LGBTQ youth encounter in these systems.
