Maria Fernandez

Bronx-raised Maria is currently the Managing Director of Campaign Strategy at the Advancement Project. She began her work at 16, organizing in the Bronx for education justice and community control. With over 20 years of youth and community organizing experience, Maria's work focuses on supporting Black youth and students of color across the country develop local and national campaigns at the intersection of education and policing. Maria works with and alongside young people and communities to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline, end the criminalization of young people, and win #PoliceFreeSchools through the National Campaign for Police Free Schools.
