Kennadi Robinson

Rethink

Kennadi Robinson is 14 years old and attends Benjamin Franklin High School. She is suffocated in a complicated way. Meaning, she is mature for her age most of the time, and when pushed she is very intelligent and insightful. Her family inspired and motivated her to be a part of Rethink. They encouraged her to explore and grow as a person, and to think critically about her community. This push allowed her to find her passion in being a youth organizer. Finding the solutions to the problems she sees in the world, and being the change she wishes to. She strives to continue this work in her adult years, and wants to see the implementation of Restorative Justice in New Orleans Public Schools instead of the punitive systems which currently exist.

Building a Community Led Movement to End Mass Incarceration

Research can be a vehicle for unearthing stories in order to fuel the resistance to the oppression we face. This workshop will explore how individuals and organizations throughout the country are examining and using community participatory research to illuminate and demystify the reality of the cradle to prison pipeline and the grave impacts of incarceration on individuals, families, and communities -- humanizing research and the lives of participants in the process. This highly interactive workshop is geared towards those who are actively engaged in working with young people and dismantling the prison industrial complex.
Speakers: Patrisse Cullors, DeAngelo Bester, Milan Alexander, Alicia Walters, Azadeh Zohrabi, Kennadi Robinson, Ashley Triggs
