Denicia Cadena is a queer chicana born and raised in Mesilla, New Mexico. Denicia is the Communications and Cultural Strategy Director of Young Women United (YWU), an organizing and policy project by and for young women of color in New Mexico. She leads YWU’s communications strategies so that our efforts reflect the lived experiences of our communities. Rooted in cultural organizing, Denicia develops media and messaging alongside YWU’s members, leaders and activists to move community based policy change and culture shift. Denicia has deep experience working on issues of reproductive justice, racial justice, and queer justice.

Rainbow Warriors: Lifting Up Queer and Trans Youth Resiliency

In this workshop, participants will learn about a national queer and trans youth of color-led culture shift campaign on queer and trans youth resiliency. Members of the Strong Families’ RAD (Revolutionizing a Dream) Youth Movement: Branching Seedz (CO), Young Women United (NM), and Forward Together Youth (CA) will share how their base of queer and trans youth leaders and their allies have launched a campaign to counter the narrative surrounding queer and trans youth of color as victims and lift up stories of resiliency.
