Antisemitism, Mega-Donors, Israel | Palestine and More: Challenges Facing Jewish Philanthropy and Impacts on Justice Movements

Despite a deep, significant, and long-standing commitment to liberal and progressive causes in the U.S., at the current moment this historical role of Jewish philanthropy is in grave danger. Conservative mega-donors, Israel | Palestine, the power of whiteness, relative affluence, and increasing antisemitism have combined to shift major Jewish institutions, foundations, and donors to the right in recent years (and months since Oct. 7). Put another way: The progressive movement needs Jews, and Jews need the progressive movement – and the right-ward lurch of Jewish philanthropy is putting both in jeopardy.
