Cheryl Mayo Williams is the Senior Director of Community and Government Relations at Children's Medical Center. Ms. Mayo Williams has worked with community based health initiatives for well over a decade, most recently as the Executive Director of West Dallas Community Centers, Inc. She received her Master’s degree in Public Health and Health Care Administration from Meharry Medical College. She has been recognized with various awards, from membership in the 2013 Class of Leadership Dallas to the 2012 Gail Reese Excellence in Mentoring Award from Southern Methodist University.

Innovating for Health Equity in Dallas

Dallas exhibits some of the worst health indicators in the country – particularly among chronic conditions like asthma, obesity, and diabetes. People of color in Dallas experience these diseases at a higher rate and with more severity than their white counterparts. This trend is magnified by stark differences in racial and economic geographies. Several healthcare institutions are trying new types of initiative to improve the health of Dallas residents, with special attention to the needs of low income residents and communities of color. The presentation will be a candid talk about the past, present and future relationships between healthcare institutions and the larger community.
