RACE FLICKS: Stories Lead to Action

Race Forward is teaming up again with Working Films to present Race Flicks, a micro-film festival and track of Facing Race: A National Conference being held in Detroit, MI November 8 - 10, 2018.

HURRY. THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM HAS BEEN MOVED UP TO: MARCH 31, 2018

Race Forward is pleased to be co-curating the Race Flicks track with Working Films, a national leader in the use of documentary for social change. The Facing Race and Working Films team will work with selected filmmakers to create dynamic programming for each film. This will include participation by select filmmakers and characters featured in the documentaries, curated post screening conversations with activists and organizations, and opportunities for audiences to learn how take films back to their communities and use them to incite change.

Race Flicks focuses on showcasing the highest caliber filmmaking related to racial justice and strategies for using it to make an impact. The selected films will be chosen in large part because of the way they have been or could be used strategically by activists, organizers, nonprofits, and other institutions to advance their work for racial justice. This year’s program will have a special focus on accountable filmmaking that truly represents and holds great potential to build power among those represented in the stories at hand.

Dozens of filmmakers applied for the opportunity to screen their film at Facing Race last year, and now we’re in search of the 2018 slate. The application process will open and be available for submissions from February 1, 2018 until March 31, 2018.
